Chennamma Gardens - Balabharati Session - 28th July 2018

Important update on this session was the celebration of Guru Poornima. We had an interactive session with kids on why Guru Poornima is celebrated, some of our Gurus and who these children see as Gurus. Sharing some of the pictures we took on this day

We were privileged to have Sri Sureshji and Ganapathyji attend this weeks session. They conducted the RPL meeting (Review, Planning & learning) and gave us the head-start to continue it on a monthly basis.

BALABHARATI News:
  • New Balabharati started at Sai Krupa Elite ( Doddanekkundi ), Nitesh Forest Hills ( Kadugodi), Jyothi Clique apartment ( Vigyan Nagar ), Purva Fairmont ( HSR ), Esteem Parak ( JP nagar ), Shanti Park ( Jayanagr 9th Block ), DSR Rainbow apartment ( HSR).
  • Pariwar Presidency team took the kids for a "Lake walk" activity. Kids along with shikshikas walked together enjoying the lake side and did Balabharati activity and walked back. Kids enjoyed the experience.
  • Balabharati shikshikas' experience sharing sessions were held at 9 places in Bengaluru. All mothers were encouraged to participate. 140 mothers participated, many of them who are already playing shikshika role, and many who wished to contribute in future. Quite a few mothers from potential new centers also participated. They shared many positive experiences about Balabharati, kind of changes seen in both children and mothers. They also had a workshop on how to strengthen their Balabharati centers. A key take away was the need to strengthen the "team work" aspect among mothers for which it was proposed to have a monthly coming together of mothers at a convenient time within the apartment during the last week of the month. It was felt that this session could be utilized for Review of the Balabharati experience of the month gone by, planning for upcoming month, and also a small learning activity, eg: learning games which can be conducted for kids.
  • SLS spencer had Guru Vandana program. They invited few teachers like music & dance teacher who are coming to teach BB kids & few teachers within the community who are taking classes. Around 8 teachers were honoured with beetle leaves, banana flower & a tulsi plant in a decorated (hand made by our Art teacher) mud pot. They had a song by our kids & a short talk about Gurus & their importance in our life. Many mothers attended the program & they were happy about the initiative. 20 kids attended. One of the shikshikas shared her experiences about Balabharathi & how it helped her find her own potential & shred all inhibitors to become a Yoga teacher now.
  • Sarovar Balabharati also celebrated Guru vandana. They invited three teachers in the neighborhood. Children made Gond art cards for the gurus and gave it to them while offering them flowers. They also did pranipaat to the teachers seeking their blessings. Swapna ji, yoga instructor in our neighborhood who conducts yoga classes as seva, spoke about the importance of yoga for children. She explained how it provides us energy and improves our health and concentration power. She also emphasised the importance of daily practice. Then she did suryanamaskar lead and follow along with the shloka for suryanamaskar. Sarita ji, a college professor and a voluntary teacher, spoke to the children about the importance of seva. She explained how seva can begin at home. Children can do seva at home not only by helping their parents in their chores but also by doing their own work responsibly. She also explained how children can do seva in school, in the neighborhood and also for our mother earth.  Sheela ji, a voluntary teacher in an NGO, spoke to us about very interesting 'why do we do' practices. She explained the logic behind doing charansparsh, why we do rangoli with rice powder, why we apply oil on our head, why we wear flowers in our hair, etc.  Interestingly, what all the three guest teachers spoke, very beautifully connected with each other when the children participated in the discussion. Children very actively interacted with the guest teachers. The teachers mentioned that they felt very special and very happy today. After a formal introduction of the teachers to the BB parents, and after thanking them for spending time with our children telling them about important things, all the children did namaskar to all the elders present and gave them also cards since mothers are also their gurus. Prasad was distributed in the end.
  • A suggested guidelines which was sent to all centers for Guruvandana program is attached with this mail.

This weeks Balabharati session had 26 kids . We did our first crafts activity of making a greeting card. Kids enjoyed it very much. The other highlight of this week was that we started taking attendance of kids and Shikshikas via an android app. This would help us track the regular attendees , applaud them and simultaneously motivate the ones who are missing the session.
