Diwali special activity in Sarovar balbharti and Kishore Bharti .. killa/fort making

In Maharashtra, it is a tradition to make a mud fort during Diwali in honour of Shivaji Maharaj. This year, we thought of bringing this unique activity experience to balbharti and Kishore Bharti. All residents of our apartment were also invited to join in to guide the children or to enjoy making the mud fort or just to relive the memories of their own childhood when they must have made a mud fort.
Before beginning the actual mud fort making, Manishji (balbharti parent), told the children about Shivaji Maharaj and his courage and bravery.
Then, we split the group into two where balbharti children worked on the cutting and pasting task of pictures of Shivaji Maharaj and his foot soldiers (called mavle). Kishore Bharti children in the meanwhile began planning the fort with a reference picture that we gave them. Soon material like mud, bricks, tiles etc was brought and the kids started the fort making. Adults from the apartment were also present to help them and guide them. Even grandparents were present to guide the children. It was indeed a pleasure to watch three generations participating in the activity with such enthusiasm and working with great fervour.
As the children and parents worked on the fort making, one Kishore Bharti mother brought out refreshments along with tea and juice for everyone. After the fort was completed, all the people gathered around it and captured the wonderful memory in a group picture around the fort while loudly saying Jai Bhavani, Jai Shivaji and Har har mahadev.
This activity taught all of us a lot of things. Planning, coming together as a big group, spirit of unity, team spirit, creative thinking and problem solving while executing the mud fort. The fort had several features like a tunnel way for escaping, a wall around the fort with watch towers (called buruj in marathi), mahadwar, etc. and it also had Shivaji Maharaj, his mavle, and the saffron dhwaj of Hindavi  Swaraj.
We have decided to take up this activity next year as well.

Guru Poornima Celebration at Sarovar BB

Guru, the one who dispels the darkness of ignorance and guides us towards the light of knowledge.
Recently we celebrated guru Vandana in sarovar balbharti. We invited three teachers in the neighborhood. Children made Gond art cards for the gurus and gave it to them while offering them flowers. They also did pranipaat to the teachers seeking their blessings.
Swapna ji, yoga instructor in our neighborhood who conducts yoga classes as seva, spoke about the importance of yoga for children. She explained how it provides us energy and improves our health and concentration power. She also emphasised the importancw of daily practice. Then she did suryanamaskar lead and follow along with the shloka for suryanamaskar.
Sarita ji, a college professor and a voluntary teacher, spoke to the children about the importance of seva. She explained how seva can begin at home. Children can do seva at home not only by helping their parents in their chores but also by doing their own work responsibly which will be a seva to the parents. She also explained how children can do seva in school, in the neighborhood and also for our mother earth.
Sheela ji, a voluntary teacher in an NGO, spoke to us about very interesting 'why do we do' practices. She explained the logic behind doing charansparsh, why we do rangoli with rice powder, why we apply oil on our head, why we wear flowers in our hair, etc.
Interestingly, what all the three guest teachers spoke, very beautyfully connected with each other when the children participated in the discussion.
Children very actively interacted with the guest teachers. The teachers mentioned that they felt very special and very happy today.
After a formal introduction of the teachers to the bb parents, and after thanking them for spending time with our children telling them about important things, all the children did namaskar to all the elders present and gave them also cards since mothers are also their gurus.
We ended today's small and beautiful guru vandana programme by distributing prasad.
Below are few snapshots from there program:-

Indepenence day celebration at Sarovar balbharti

Today Sarovar kishore bharti and Balbharti together celebrated Independence day. Parents and grandparents also attended the programme and enthusiastically participated in all the activities.
We began the programme with prayer followed by chandan hai is desh ki maati song by balbharti kids. Then everybody participated in a game which the parents also thoroughly enjoyed playing. After this we had a round of questions for all the balbharti and kishore bharti kids. They were asked questions like "what does independence mean to you?", "how are you contributing towards the betterment of your country?", "tell about a freedom fighter from your region". Children expressed their ideas and parents appreciated the kind of questions that the youngsters were asked.
What followed then was a craft activity where kishore bharti and blabharti kids formed teams of three each and so did the parents. They were shown a sample of a paper craft and were told to make it. The parents and grandparents were very happy doing the craft activity and so were the kids. Then the kishore bharti kids presented a song. After this sweets were distributed and the session closed with shanti mantra.

Talk on food by Dr Hanifa in sarovar balbharti

Yesterday we invited our very own Dr aunty, Dr Hanifa, to talk to the children about food. She very nicely explained how we should eat a balanced diet consisting of carbs, fats, proteins and vitamins and minerals. Apart from this information, she gave valuable insights which were thought provoking for some shikshikas as well.
She told the children that while we are having food, we should be happy.. And grateful because we have food. So many don't have food to eat. Hence we should happily eat food and also make sure not to waste it. She also said that if we don't like a particular dish, we can tell our parents to give little of that when it is served the next time. But for this time, we should happily consume what is served to us.
After the talk, we also talked about expressing gratitude to the annadata by saying annadata sukhi bhav after each meal. If our annadata is sukhi, the quality of the food we get well also be good.. Isn't it? Point to ponder indeed.

Rangoli demo in sarovar balbharti

Ushaji came to sarovar balbharti last week to give a demo of rangoli making. All the children were engrossed in it so much that they did not want to stop. Along with rangoli technique, Ushaji also gave a small boudhik to all about why we visit temples. She told children that one must visit the temple to express gratitude to the God for having given us all that we have in our life and not for asking something from the God.
Mothers liked the activity so much that they want Ushaji to come again to teach them also.
