HAS ANYONE HEARD OF THE LEGENDARY LEPAKSHI, THE ONE WITH IMMENSE ARCHITECTURAL BEAUTY? NO?! THEN COME ON I WILL TAKE YOU TO THIS BEAUTIFUL LAND….
Lepakshi, the wonderland of architecture, is located near the outskirts of Andhra Pradesh near Ghati
Subramanium. It is home to the Lord Veerabhadreshwara. It also has 1 floating pillar which goes
around 1 or 2 inches from the ground. When you enter the temple you find some pillars with dancers’
pictures drawn on them. The main dancer faces towards a stone, but behind it the teacher of the
dancers is there and he keeps dancing/teaching on the way. The Gods were so impressed by his
dancing, that they gave him one more leg for if one leg tires he can use the 3rd leg. On the other side
there is a carving of Matha Parvathi, Lord Shiva (who comes there as a beggar). Goddess Parvathi
serves everyone with food but lost in the devotion and love for Lord Shiva. So Lord Shiva wanting to
test her removed her sari, but she continued to serve food. Then there are paintings on the ceilings.
Outside there is a huge footprint, which is considered to be Matha Sita’s foot print. There is a story
behind this:-When the noble Jatayu tried to save Sita from the monster Ravana Sita pressed her foot
on a cliff. From there rose a water spring. Jatayu survived on this water until Lord Rama came. After
he came Jatayu told the whole story and died.
Near that there is a huge snake sculpture sculpted by sculptors in 30 minutes. There is a story behind
this also, 4 brothers all sculptors went to have lunch, but there mother told them to wait for some
time. After half an hour their mother called them for lunch, then she was stunned to see a he snake
sculpture.
This is our beautiful Lepakshi which has preserved by our ancestors for us to see….
